Why I Make My Own Pasta Noodles

When I started making my own pasta noodles, it wasn’t to save money. While it only costs roughly $1 to make 1 lbs of noodles the reason I started making them was because I wanted to see what all the fuss was about.


The Inspiration


I was gifted a wonderful cookbook from my friend Kristina that finally got me thinking that I could make noodles myself.

The cook book is called The Homemade Pantry: 101 Things to Stop Buying and Start MakingIt has become a staple in my home and has allowed me to conquer many goals that I didn’t even know I had. Making Noodles for the First Time


I remember the first time I set out to make noodles from scratch. It started with a fun trip to buy a very modest pasta roller. Upon arriving home I sat down with the very easy recipe and gave myself the afternoon to make spaghetti!

Like I said, the recipe is easy, it involves 3 eggs and 2 cups of flour. The pasta roller is equally easy, it involves elbow grease.

Making noodles for the first time, was easyish. I was glad that I gave myself the afternoon. After all was said and done, it took a couple hours from start to finish but it was well worth the time.


Since I’ve been making noodles for three years now, the process has gotten a lot quicker. I can be up and running with linguine in the pot in about an hour.


I served my noodles with my super simple tomato sauce and WOW they were amazing!! Oh but wait, there’s more! Not only are these noodles delectable they don’t sit in your stomach like a rock. So eat more!

Now that I know what all the fuss is about, I make noodles on a regular basis. It’s not about the cost, store bought noodles are very affordable and taste great. It’s about the process. For me, being able to take flour and eggs and turn them into a pasta dish is very fulfilling for me and I wouldn’t go back. Now that I have more experience with noodles I have been branching out into making new shapes and not just making linguine or spaghetti. The fun is never ending!
